From the Diaries of Barney Calhoun:
Monday August 19, 2002:
Dear diary: guess who’s broke, single, and unemployed? That’s right: me. I’m happy I’ll never have to take shit from Mr Maroni again, but man. Things are looking bad for yours truly. Fired from the store, behind on my credit cards, and rent’s due in a week. I’m 25 years old, and what have I got to show for it? An undecided major from Martinson college and an expired driver’s license. Yipidee doo-dah.
I need to call Joe about this eventually, but I can’t face it right now. I know what he’ll tell me: “Why didn’t you become a cop like me and dad? The Calhouns have been lawmen since the civil war!” Blah blah blah.
Tonight I’m gonna drink some Blue Ribbon and hunker down in front of the TV. I’ll think of something. I’m a survivor.
